NiKem Research receives Italian authorization to perform toxicology studies of NCEs in rodents

NiKem Research is pleased to announce that it has received on March 29th 2010, from the Italian Ministry of Health (Decree N. 69/2010-B), the authorization to perform acute and sub-chronic toxicology studies (upto 28 days) in all rodent species for preliminary safety evaluation of novel chemical entities (NCEs). Toxicokinetic (TK) studies are also allowed to correlate plasma and/or organ exposure of NCEs (and metabolites) to tolerated doses in toxicology studies.

Potential new drug therapies for treatment of tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) has been present in humans since ancient times. The origins of the disease date back to the first domestication of cattle, and skeletal remains show prehistoric humans (4,000 B.C.) had TB. Although relatively rare in the United States, it is the single leading bacterial cause of death worldwide. Approximately 8 million people are infected each year and 2 million people die from TB.

UK GTAC, MHRA approve Scancell's Phase I clinical trial of SCIB1 DNA ImmunoBody vaccine

Scancell Holdings Plc,, the developer of therapeutic cancer vaccines, today announced at BIO2010 in Chicago that its proposal to conduct a Phase I clinical trial on SCIB1, its DNA ImmunoBody® vaccine being developed for the treatment of melanoma, has been approved in the UK by the Gene Therapy Advisory Committee and by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency Medicines Division.

NIH awards $3.4M grant for preclinical development of novel Staphylococcus aureus vaccine

Interim study results demonstrate anti-tumor activity of CytRx's INNO-206 in myeloma tumor cells

CytRx Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in oncology, today announced interim study results that showed its doxorubicin prodrug INNO-206 demonstrated statistically significant anti-tumor activity in human myeloma tumor cells growing in immune-deficient mice compared to a control group, while exhibiting significantly less toxicity than doxorubicin even though INNO-206 was administered at much higher doses.

Santen licenses Clinical Data's ATL313 agonist compound for development of ophthalmic treatments

Clinical Data, Inc., and Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., today announced that Santen has exercised its option to license Clinical Data's highly selective adenosine A2A agonist compound, ATL313, for the development of topical treatments for certain ophthalmic diseases, including glaucoma. ATL313, a promising late-stage preclinical compound, has shown significant pharmacological effects in vivo and has been nominated as a clinical candidate.
