Australia's PBAC recommends use of XIFAXAN 550 mg for hepatic encephalopathy

Norgine today announced that the Australian assessment body the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee has recommended the use of XIFAXAN 550 mg in the prevention of the recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy where other treatments have failed or are contraindicated; a potentially life-threatening neuropsychiatric condition associated with liver disease.

A1-PI treatment slows progression of emphysema in patients with AATD

Treatment with an Alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor (A1-PI), a naturally occurring protein that protects lung tissue from breakdown and protects the lung's elasticity, is effective in slowing the progression of emphysema in patients with Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), a life-threatening genetic disorder, according to a new study presented at the 2013 American Thoracic Society International Conference.

Antidepressant treatment results in lower rate of MSIMI

Among patients with stable coronary heart disease and mental stress-induced myocardial ischemia (MSIMI), 6 weeks of treatment with the antidepressant escitalopram, compared with placebo, resulted in a lower rate of MSIMI, according to a study in the May 22/29 issue of JAMA.
