The GAVI Alliance "has struck a deal for bulk buying rotavirus shots from GlaxoSmithKline and Merck, which cuts the price by two-thirds and will allow poorer countries access to them at around $5 per course," Reuters reports.

Fish oil not as beneficial for the heart as thought: Study

Fish oil, a combination of omega-3 fatty acids that has attracted much research on its effects on heart health. So far, the evidence has been inconclusive -- some studies have found fish oil has been major in preventing heart attacks, strokes and sudden cardiac death, while others have found fish oil has no benefits at all.

FDA ODAC votes in favour of GSK's Votrient

GlaxoSmithKline announced today that the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC) to the US FDA voted 11 to 2 that evidence from clinical studies support a favourable benefit – risk assessment for use of Votrient in treating patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma who have received prior chemotherapy, noting that those with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) and adipocytic sarcomas were not included in the Phase III trial.
