The most common breast cancer is HER2-negative, so called because it has low amounts of one of the proteins that contribute to tumor cell growth, HER2. Despite this common trait, the development of HER2-negative cancers varies among patients, so one goal is to be able to classify tumors in more detail and thus determine the best treatment for each case.

It has long been known that when red blood cells break down or anemia occurs due to bleeding, the hormone erythropoietin (EPO) increases, leading to the proliferation of immature cells (erythroblasts) that eventually become red blood cells, thus restoring the red blood cell count.

New research strengthens the case for a zoonotic origin of COVID-19

A new international collaborative study provides a list of the wildlife species present at the market from which SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, most likely arose in late 2019. The study is based on a new analysis of metatranscriptomic data released by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A novel in vitro model for studying wrinkle formation in biological tissues

A research team consisting of Professor Dong Sung Kim, Professor Anna Lee, and Dr. Jaeseung Youn from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at POSTECH has successfully recreated the structure of wrinkles in biological tissue in vitro, uncovering the mechanisms behind their formation. Their findings were published on August 19 in the international journal Nature Communications.
