Janssen’s NUCYNTA ER tablets more effective in providing pain management in adults with DPN

Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the results of an investigational Phase 3 study suggesting NUCYNTA ER (tapentadol) extended-release tablets were significantly more effective than placebo in providing pain management among adults with chronic moderate to severe, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

New EMR tool helps reduce unnecessary abdominal CT scan use among ER patients

A new electronic medical record tool that tallies patients' previous radiation exposure from CT scans helps reduce potentially unnecessary use of the tests among emergency room patients with abdominal pain, according to a study from researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania that will be presented today at the annual meeting of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.

Novel heart monitoring device helps ER patients avoid unnecessary follow-up care

A study conducted at Scripps Health has found that a novel new heart monitoring device helped emergency room patients avoid unnecessary follow-up care. Scripps Health electrophysiologist Steven Higgins, MD, presented findings of the study titled, "Prevalence of Arrhythmias in Emergency Department Patients Discharged Using a Novel Ambulatory Cardiac Monitor", today at the Heart Rhythm Society's 33rd Annual Scientific Sessions in Boston.

WellNow Urgent Care, based in Nashville, continues its growth trajectory for 2012 with two new Middle Tennessee clinics. WellNow Dickson is now open following the acquisition and renovation of the former Walk-In Quick Care, according to J. Scott Jordan, M.D., WellNow's Chief Medical Officer. North Suburban Medical Center's Northeast ER opens its doors today at the corner of Holly Street and 128th Avenue to receive emergency patients from the surrounding communities. The 10,000-foot, state-of- the-art emergency department will function just like a hospital-based ER, treating everything from minor injuries to more severe and life-threatening illnesses such as stroke or heart attack. Northeast ER is a true emergency facility, open 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
