Premier international conference to discuss latest diagnostic tools, emerging therapies for personalized medicine

What As scientists understand more about a tumor's underlying biology, personalized medicine is emerging as the new patient management paradigm. This year, the American Association for Cancer Research will host its fourth Molecular Diagnostics in Cancer Therapeutic Development: Challenges and Horizons conference at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel in Denver, Colo. This meeting regularly draws representatives from academia and industry to discuss the latest in diagnostic tools and emerging therapies.

Caliper Life Sciences second-quarter GAAP revenue decreases 10% to $29.0 million

Caliper Life Sciences, Inc., today reported results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2010. Second quarter GAAP revenue decreased 10% to $29.0 million from $32.1 million in the same period in 2009 as a result of divestitures in 2010 and 2009. Revenue from on-going business increased 4% on a reported basis and 6% on an organic basis (which assumes constant currency).

Pathwork Diagnostics enters into research collaboration with Novartis

Pathwork Diagnostics Inc., a molecular diagnostics company focused on oncology, today announced that it has entered into a research collaboration with Novartis. The parties intend to discover clinically meaningful biomarker signatures that can serve as the basis for diagnostics across a range of cancer types. Under the terms of the agreement, both parties have rights to develop and commercialize the diagnostic products. Financial terms were not disclosed.

NIH awards Akonni $435K to develop point-of-care diagnostics for multi-drug resistant strains of MTB

Akonni Biosystems a molecular diagnostics company focused on developing and manufacturing rapid, high multiplex solutions for infectious disease testing, today announced receipt of a $435K grant from the National Institutes of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering at the National Institutes of Health. Roche obtains global co-exclusive license for PI3K biomarker from QIAGEN

Roche announced today that the company has obtained a worldwide co-exclusive license for the biomarker PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) from QIAGEN to develop real-time and endpoint PCR diagnostic assays. Johns Hopkins University owns the patent for the PI3K biomarker and has previously granted an exclusive license to QIAGEN's wholly owned subsidiary DxS, now QIAGEN Manchester.

QIAGEN has completed European certification of its careHPV™ Test to bring human papillomavirus (HPV) testing to public-health programs in low-resource, developing countries, the company announced today at the International Papillomavirus Conference in Montreal, Canada. The CE conformity marking ("Conformite Europeenne") certifies that the careHPV Test has met European Union consumer safety and health requirements, allowing the test to be distributed in developing countries that recognize the CE mark.

PGXL announces new contractual agreement with GH

PGXL, a Louisville-based molecular diagnostics laboratory, announced a new contractual agreement with Generation Health, Inc. The agreement makes PGXL a preferred genetic testing lab for GH.
