A clinical trial of a new neuroprotective drug for people with traumatic brain injuries will be offered to patients seen in UC Davis Medical Center's level-1 trauma center, through an $8 million grant funded by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program of the U.S. Department of Defense.

An international team comprising researchers from more than 100 institutions analysed vast suites of genetic data from more than 100,000 people of European descent to uncover the associations.

The Atlantic examines the emergence of drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis around the world, with a look at the situation in South Africa. "[T]he resurgence of tuberculosis is not limited to South Africa. India and China have the largest numbers of tuberculosis cases, and multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) has been found in nearly every country, with XDR [extensively drug resistant]-TB in at least 57 countries," according to the article.

NIH awards 12 research grants totaling $5 million for Tβ4 research

REGENERX BIOPHARMACEUTICALS, INC. announced today that National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded 12 research grants totaling over $5,000,000 for the study of Tβ4 in 2009/2010. Many of these grants will be going to collaborators with whom RegeneRx is working to understand its numerous biological activities and capabilities in medical indications, including the role of Tβ4 as an anti-inflammatory agent in tissue regeneration and its promotion of stem cell maturation.

Georg-August-University Gottingen, University of Regensburg and MRC Technology (MRCT) have signed exclusive license agreements through MBM ScienceBridge GmbH and in agreement with Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH, for the development of a novel therapy of inflammatory and immune diseases based on the depletion of inflammatory monocytes. The first targets will be rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS).
