A hormone is a chemical released by one or more cells that affects cells in other parts of the organism. Only a small amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. It is essentially a chemical messenger that transports a signal from one cell to another.

Perinatal exposure to BPA affects mammary hormone response

A recent study accepted for publication in Molecular Endocrinology, a journal of The Endocrine Society, found that perinatal exposure to environmentally relevant doses of bisphenol A (BPA) alters long-term hormone response and breast development in mice that may increase the propensity to develop cancer.

Prostate cancer medicine deemed too-expensive by NHS

A drug used in therapy of prostate cancer that extends the lives of men with advanced prostate cancer is too expensive for use on the NHS, according to draft guidance. The drug has been shown to extend the lives of men with advanced prostate cancer by around 10 weeks.

David, under the advisement of his oncologist, decided to be treated with PROVENGE (sipuleucel-T), the first in a new therapeutic class known as autologous cellular immunotherapies.
