A hormone is a chemical released by one or more cells that affects cells in other parts of the organism. Only a small amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. It is essentially a chemical messenger that transports a signal from one cell to another.

CANCER RESEARCH UK Cancer Research UK scientists have discovered why a sub group of oestrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer patients could benefit from prostate cancer treatments which target the cell's androgen receptor - a key driver of prostate cancer, according to research published in The EMBO Journal today.

Positive data from Lyxumia study on type 2 diabetes presented at ADA 2011

Sanofi announced today data from four studies of its once-daily GLP-1 receptor agonist Lyxumia that is in Phase III clinical development, including data that demonstrates positive results in type 2 diabetes patients not at goal on oral therapies or with basal insulin.

EMA CHMP recommends approval of linagliptin for type 2 diabetes

Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company today received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) medicinal committee recommending approval of linagliptin, 5 mg, film-coated tablets (to be marketed under the trade name Trajenta® in Europe) for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes.
