Blind cyclists to travel from Toronto to Collingwood in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness

On Saturday, June 19th, the vision impaired community will team up with cycling enthusiasts to embark on a 140 km journey for second annual Cycle for Sight, in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Date set for Ryan Phua Memorial Kids' Ride, Burlingame Criterium

The 7th annual Ryan Phua Memorial Kids' Ride, featuring more than 700 kids of all ages, will once again provide one of the key highlights at the 24th annual Burlingame Criterium, set for Sunday, June 27, 2010. The race activities will fill the streets, restaurants and shops of downtown Burlingame with thousands of competitive cyclists, children, volunteers and spectators. Adding to the excitement of Ryan's Ride, the day's multiple races will culminate in a Men's pro event and a separate Women's pro event.

Memory Ride to raise money and awareness to fight Alzheimer's disease

Hundreds of cyclists, from experienced to novice, are signing up for Memory Ride to raise money and awareness to fight Alzheimer's disease. Set for Saturday, July 24, Memory Ride offers a challenging 100-mile "century" ride, as well as a "metric century" of 62 miles and a 20-mile option.

AIDS/LifeCycle event raises $10M to support HIV/AIDS services

More than 2,400 participants in AIDS/LifeCycle arrived at the Veterans Center in Los Angeles today after traveling 545 miles from San Francisco over the past seven days in the world's largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraising event. In its ninth year, the event raised $10 million to support the services of San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center that prevent new HIV infections and care for those living with HIV/AIDS.

Cycle helmets exude odoriferous oils when cracked

Cycle helmets are available in a wide range of types, including foldable models, models fitted with a flashing rear light or featuring an iPhone display. In future, they will start to smell distinctively if they need to be replaced. A new process causes odoriferous oils to exude from plastic materials if they are cracked.

Study sheds light on how IMT improves performance in endurance sports

An Indiana University study found that strengthening inspiratory muscles by performing daily breathing exercises for six weeks significantly reduced the amount of oxygen these same breathing muscles required during exercise, possibly making more oxygen available for other muscles.

The recent start of the North American cycling season marks the beginning of a physically demanding time for elite and professional bicycle racers who participate in multi-day stage races. Previous research has found that competitive cyclists have significantly lower bone mineral density than other endurance athletes, making them more susceptible to fractures.

Protein PEA-15 stops T-cell proliferation

New research has identified that a key protein called PEA-15 stops T-cell proliferation by blocking the cell's ability to reproduce. The control of T-cell proliferation is essential in preventing certain blood cancers and autoimmune diseases, as well as the orchestration of the immune response to infection. Findings of the study are reported in a recent online issue of The FASEB Journal, a publication of The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

ZENPEP CF Cycle for Life to be launched to support research and cure for cystic fibrosis

Thousands of cyclists will take to the streets this summer and fall as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation launches a new cycling tour in 18 cities across the country to support research to find new therapies and a cure for cystic fibrosis. The tour series, known as ZENPEP CF Cycle for Life, begins in San Francisco on June 26.
