Forest Laboratories third quarter net sales increase 24.9% to $846.8 million

Forest Laboratories, Inc., a leading, fully integrated, specialty pharmaceutical company largely focused on the United States market, announced that reported diluted earnings per share equaled $0.07 in the third quarter of fiscal 2014, compared to a reported loss per share of ($0.58) in the third quarter of fiscal 2013. The third quarter of fiscal 2014 included a $45 million charge ($28.2 million net of tax) related to Project Rejuvenate.

BioLineRx gets approval to begin CE Mark registration trial of BL-5010P for skin lesion treatment

BioLineRx, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to identifying, in-licensing and developing promising therapeutic candidates, announced today that it has received approval from the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) to commence a pivotal, CE Mark registration trial for BL-5010P, for the non-surgical removal of benign skin lesions.

Breakthrough technology could provide new approach for treatment of chronic wounds

A team of researchers led by an NIBIB grantee at Vanderbilt University has created a biodegradable scaffold that enables sustained, local delivery of gene-silencing factors called siRNA to promote tissue regeneration. The team recently used the scaffold to successfully deliver siRNA to mice in order to locally silence a gene normally responsible for inhibiting blood vessel formation.

Strontium should no longer be used for osteoporosis treatment, warns European Agency

All persons taking strontium supplements are warned that significant risks have been identified. Strontium drugs are not approved for treatment of osteoporosis in the United States. Now, the Risk Assessment Committee of the European Medicines Agency recommended that strontium should no longer be used to treat osteoporosis in Europe. The drugs Protelos/Osseor were specifically named as brand names for strontium ranelate.
