Zogenix secures $35M financing for commercial launch of SUMAVEL DosePro needle-free delivery system

Zogenix, Inc., a privately held pharmaceutical company, announced that it has secured a $35 million debt facility led by Oxford Finance Corporation which also included Silicon Valley Bank. The facility consists of a $25 million term loan and a $10 million revolving line of credit. Concurrently, all existing Zogenix investors, including Clarus Ventures, Domain Associates, Scale Venture Partners, Thomas, McNerney & Partners, Abingworth Management, and Chicago Growth Partners, have provided an additional $15 million investment.

EntreMed announces publication of preclinical data for ENMD-2076

EntreMed, Inc., today announced the publication of preclinical data for its Phase 2 oncology drug candidate, ENMD-2076 an Aurora A/angiogenic kinase inhibitor, which demonstrated significant activity against multiple myeloma cell lines and in MM models in vivo. Results of the study, conducted by EntreMed's collaborator, Sherif Farag, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues at the Indiana University School of Medicine, were published in the on-line version of the British Journal of Haematology on June 15, 2010 and are scheduled to be published in print in the August 1, 2010 issue.

Biodel reports preclinical test results of BIOD620 glucose-regulated or "smart" basal insulin product candidate

Biodel Inc. today reported results of preclinical tests which demonstrated the potential of the company's glucose-regulated or "smart" basal insulin product candidate, BIOD620, to release insulin proportionally in response to changing glucose conditions. In an oral presentation today at the 37th Annual Meeting and Exposition of the Controlled Release Society in Portland, Oregon, Nandini Kashyap, director of novel drug delivery at Biodel, described results of in vitro and in vivo studies with diabetic pigs which compared the use of BIOD620 to Lantus® (insulin glargine).

Watson Laboratories files ANDA with FDA for generic Renvela for oral suspension

Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today confirmed that its subsidiary, Watson Laboratories, Inc., filed an Abbreviated New Drug Application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration seeking approval to market sevelamer carbonate for oral suspension, 0.8g and 2.4g per packet. Watson's sevelamer carbonate for oral suspension product is the generic version of Genzyme's Renvela for Oral Suspension.

Efficacy data of Caldolor Injection in treating fever associated with falciparum malaria published

Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc. today announced that data supporting the efficacy of Caldolor in treating fever associated with falciparum malaria was published in the July edition of the peer-reviewed American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. The study, which is the first to document an antipyretic effect of an injectable non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug on fever caused by malaria, demonstrated that patients who received intravenous ibuprofen experienced a greater reduction in their temperatures than those who received placebo.

Colgate's Bright Smiles, Bright Futures national campaign to improve children's oral health joins Super Bowl champions Jonathan Vilma, Pierre Thomas, and Marques Colston and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast, to host festivals highlighting the importance of maintaining good oral health. More than 600 children in New Orleans and Mississippi's Hancock and Harrison Counties will receive free dental screenings, oral health education and treatment referrals this weekend. The Natural Orifice Surgery Consortium for Assessment and Research- (NOSCAR-), a joint effort of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), announces the completion of the first transoral and transvaginal cholecystectomies (gallbladder removal) using Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery- (NOTES-) in a multicenter human trial in the United States.
