LFA launches new campaign for FDA-approved medication specifically for lupus

It's been 50 years since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a medication to treat lupus -- when Dwight D. Eisenhower was President! To highlight the need for safer, more tolerable, and effective medications, the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. (LFA) today launched its new campaign, Band Together for Lupus(SM), which encourages people to wear an LFA purple wristband until there is a medication approved specifically for lupus by the FDA.

MMI to provide sign language interpreters for deaf or hard-of-hearing patients

Under a voluntary resolution agreement reached with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), deaf or hard-of-hearing patients at the Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute (MMI) of Frederick, Md., will be screened and provided with sign language interpreters whenever interpreter services are necessary for effective communication. MMI is an 11-physician orthopedic practice with offices in Frederick and Hagerstown, Md., serving approximately 1,000 patients per month.

Results of IES presented at ECCO

Pfizer Inc today announced new, longer-term data from the Intergroup Exemestane Study (IES) showing that women who switched to AROMASIN® (exemestane tablets) after taking tamoxifen for two to three years experienced a significant reduction (18%) in the risk of disease-free survival (DFS) events. In addition, IES showed that AROMASIN prolonged overall survival (OS) in the ER+/unknown population with a 14% reduction in the risk of dying. These results demonstrate that the benefits of treatment are maintained in long term follow-up. These results were presented at the joint ECCO 15/ESMO 34 meeting in Berlin, Germany.
