Hawthorn announces licensing deal with University of Pittsburgh for novel monoclonal antibodies for cancer

Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced a global licensing deal with the University of Pittsburgh covering a series of novel monoclonal antibodies for cancer. The antibody portfolio targets a variety of cancers through the cell surface chondrotin sulfate proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4), which plays an important role in signaling pathways regulating tumor cell survival, growth, and motility.

Emergent BioSolutions' anthrax monoclonal antibody IND for Phase I study clears FDA review

Emergent BioSolutions Inc. announced today that its Investigational New Drug (IND) application, to commence a Phase I clinical trial for its anthrax monoclonal antibody therapeutic, has cleared U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) review. The Phase I study will evaluate the safety and pharmacokinetics of the company's fully human monoclonal antibody being developed as a parenteral post-exposure therapy for individuals who have symptoms of anthrax disease. In pre-clinical therapeutic studies, Emergent's monoclonal antibody was found to be effective.

Celldex Therapeutics commences screening in CDX-1307 Phase 2 study for bladder cancer

Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that the first patient has been screened in a randomized Phase 2 study of the Company's novel, first-in-class antibody-based vaccine candidate from its Precision Targeted Immunotherapy (PTI) platform. This study will evaluate the CDX-1307 regimen in both neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings in patients with newly diagnosed muscle-invasive bladder cancers that express hCG-beta.

Roche to commence clinical study of TB-403 in patients with colorectal and ovarian cancer

BioInvent International AB and ThromboGenics NV announce today that their partner Roche will begin an imaging study with the novel anti-cancer antibody TB-403 (RG7334) in patients with metastatic, treatment-refractory, colorectal and ovarian cancer.

Amgen submits BLA for denosumab subcutaneous RANK Ligand inhibitor

Amgen Inc. today announced the submission of a Biologics License Application (BLA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for denosumab, a subcutaneous RANK Ligand inhibitor. The BLA submission summarizes clinical experience from nearly 6,900 patients across 18 clinical studies, including approximately 5,700 patients with advanced cancer in the three, pivotal, Phase 3, head-to-head trials versus Zometa® (zoledronic acid).

Phase IIb trail results of epratuzumab in lupus patients to be presented at EULAR 2010

Immunomedics, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing monoclonal antibodies to treat cancer and other serious diseases, today announced that clinical trial results on epratuzumab, the anti-CD22 humanized monoclonal antibody licensed to UCB SA, Brussels, for autoimmune disease indications, from the Phase IIb study in patients with lupus, will be presented in four posters sessions and one published abstract.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals provides update on REGN727, REGN475 antibody product candidates

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (REGN) provided an update on two antibody product candidates in its pipeline and scheduled its first Investor Day to be held in New York City on July 15, 2010. Both product candidates, REGN727 (SAR236553) and, REGN475 (SAR164877) are being developed with sanofi-aventis under a global, strategic collaboration to discover, develop, and commercialize fully human antibodies.

GTC Biotherapeutics reports lower total net loss of $7.7M for first-quarter 2010

GTC Biotherapeutics, Inc. today reported its financial results for the first fiscal quarter ended April 4, 2010. The total net loss for the first quarter was $7.7 million, or $0.26 per share, compared to $10.4 million, or $0.99 per share, for the first quarter of 2009.

BioGenes study documents insufficient sensitivity of ELISA-based generic HCP assay

BioGenes GmbH, a supplier of GMP-compliant immunoassays and antibodies, completed a study that documents the insufficient sensitivity of an ELISA-based generic host cell protein assay. The results confirm the observation of several contract manufacturers that generic HCP assays are only of limited use for detection of HCPs during manufacturing processes.

Biotage extends peptide synthesis research collaboration with University of Copenhagen

Biotage, a leading supplier of tools and technology for medicinal and analytical chemistry, announced an agreement to extend the research collaboration with Professor Knud J. Jensen at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to develop new applications on the Biotage Syro Wave in the field of synthetic peptide and protein chemistry. OriGene Technologies, Inc., a leading gene-centric life sciences company, and the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), announce plans to create a proteotypic PeptideAtlas and develop an SRM/MRM (single reaction monitoring, multiple reaction monitoring) mass spectrometry standard database for 5,000 human proteins. The new collaboration will apply ISB's novel systems biology mass spectrometry expertise to OriGene's large collection of full length human proteins.
