Northwestern Medicine receives $12 million to continue organ transplant research with stem cells

An innovative Northwestern Medicine- research program investigating if stem cells may be the key to allowing organ transplant patients to stop taking immunosuppressive drugs has received $12 million in research funding. The grant will allow researchers to finish Phase II of the clinical trials and begin Phase III.

GW establishes Rodham Institute for Healthcare Provider Education to Eliminate Disparities

The George Washington University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Rodham Institute for Healthcare Provider Education to Eliminate Disparities. The Institute, which is housed within the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, is named in honor of the late Mrs. Dorothy E. Rodham with the vision of promoting health equity in the District of Columbia through community-focused education and training of health care providers.

Neuroscientist receives $1.7M NIH grant to continue groundbreaking visual perception research

A University of California, Riverside neuroscientist has been awarded a five-year, $1.7 million grant by the National Institutes of Health to continue groundbreaking research that may lead to new therapies for individuals with amblyopia (lazy eye), dry macular degeneration and cataracts.

Research: Low levels of vitamin D appear to increase child's risk of anemia

Low levels of the "sunshine" vitamin D appear to increase a child's risk of anemia, according to new research led by investigators at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center. The study, published online Oct. 10 in the Journal of Pediatrics, is believed to be the first one to extensively explore the link between the two conditions in children.
