Researchers from the University of Zurich and the University Hospital Zurich reveal possible new treatment methods for a rare, usually fatal brain disease. Thanks to their discovery that specific antibodies play a key role in combating the viral infection, a vaccine against the disease "progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy" could now be developed.

Invitae launches new education program to increase awareness of genetic testing for hereditary cancer

A new survey released today shows 73 percent of Americans are aware of genetic testing for hereditary cancers – a significant increase over just a few years ago. Previous research found that in 2010 less than half of the Americans surveyed said they were aware of genetic testing. Dubbed the "Angelina Jolie Effect," the current data highlight the far-reaching impact of Angelina Jolie's public discussion of genetic testing for hereditary cancer.

Veritas Genetics obtains CE mark approval for myBRCA genetic screening test

Boston-based Veritas Genetics, a pioneer in accessible genetic screening for disease prevention and early detection, received its first European CE mark approval for the company's hereditary breast and ovarian cancer genetic screening test, myBRCA. Veritas introduced myBRCA, which sequences BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes using proprietary gene-targeting technology and Next Generation Sequencing, in North America in May 2015.
