Wolverine Venture Fund to participate in Direct Flow Medical's Series C round of financing

Wolverine Venture Fund (WVF), managed by The Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, today announced participation in Direct Flow Medical Inc.'s Series C round of financing. Direct Flow Medical is an emerging medical device company developing a next-generation, catheter based, percutaneous-delivered prosthetic aortic valve.

Data undermining Thai HIV vaccine trial not reported, AHF disappointed

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest non-profit HIV/AIDS healthcare provider in the US which now provides treatment and services for more than 110,000 individuals in 21 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean and Asia, expressed frustration and disappointment at the news that data that seriously undermines a widely reported Thai HIV vaccine trial were not released publicly when other, more favorable data from the vaccine trial were publicly reported late last month.

Medical tourism in Latin America needs to be regulated to protect consumers, according to Universit- de Montr-al researchers. A new study published in the journal Developing World Bioethics argues that Argentinean fertility clinics are increasingly marketing themselves to international health care consumers: these clinics offer all-inclusive packages with fixed prices that feature airfare, accommodations, transfers, language interpreters and, of course, fertility treatments.
