Study aims to clarify expression patterns of CD24 in NSCLC

The May edition of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology features a study aimed to clarify expression patterns of a novel cancer biomarker, CD24, in non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC) and to correlate the findings to clinicopathologic variables, such as performance status, age, gender and prognostic significance.

Research reveals reason for ineffectiveness of antioxidants against cardiovascular disease

A new study by researchers at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet shows that the immune defence's T cells can attack the "bad" LDL cholesterol and thereby cause an inflammation that leads to atherosclerosis. By producing a vaccine against the T cell receptors, the researchers have managed to inhibit the development of atherosclerosis in animals.

Acceleron Pharma commences Phase 2 clinical trial of ACE-031 protein therapeutic in DMD patients

Acceleron Pharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics that modulate the growth of cells and tissues including muscle, bone, fat, red blood cells and the vasculature, today announced the initiation of a Phase 2 clinical trial with ACE-031 in patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a fatal neuromuscular disease. ACE-031 is an investigational protein therapeutic that builds muscle and increases strength by inhibiting signaling of a cell surface receptor called the activin receptor type IIB (ActRIIB).

Net income for the current period included the recognition of approximately $54.9 million in collaboration revenue due to the termination of our license and collaboration agreement with Merck & Co., Inc in March 2010.
