Personalized vaccine therapy contributes to increased survival rate in IL2-treated metastatic melanoma

Metastatic melanoma has a poor prognosis, but treatment with high-dose interleukin-2 (IL2) can extend survival. Now, a combination of IL2 therapy and activation of patients' immune systems using personalized vaccines made from their own tumor cells has been shown to improve survival rates even more than IL2 alone, according to a new article in Cancer Biotherapy and Radiopharmaceuticals, a peer-reviewed journal from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers.

Dr. Victor F. Zevallos, from the Department of Gastroenterology, King's College London, United Kingdom, evaluated the in-vivo effects of consuming quinoa in adult celiac patients. Quinoa, a highly nutritious grain, is traditionally recommended as part of a gluten-free diet.

Levels of depression and anxiety are higher in people with severe rheumatoid arthritis

Levels of depression and anxiety in people with severe rheumatoid arthritis are higher than previously reported, according to new research. As a result of their findings, a multi-centre team led by researchers at the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Genetics and Genomics at the University of Manchester, say that patients with severe active disease, who are waiting to go onto a biological therapy, should be routinely screened for depression by their doctors.

First patient dosed in ADXS-HPV Phase 1/2 study for HPV-associated head and neck cancer

Advaxis, Inc., a leader in developing the next generation of cancer immunotherapies, announced that the first patient has been dosed in a Phase 1/2 "window of opportunity" study being conducted by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. A research conducted by the Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (UPM-INIA) and led by Araceli Díaz Perales has studied the allergy to peach, the most common food allergy, and the Pru p 3 protein. As a result of this research work, they have developed three hypoallergenic variants of this protein. All can be good candidates for the usage of specific immunotherapy for peach allergy and also can be used as a vaccine.
