MLL purchases Access Array, EP1 Systems for high-throughput deep-resequencing analysis

Millennium reports on data of VELCADE for multiple myeloma from 2010 ASCO oral presentations

Circadian cell division gets disrupted due to artificial light at night

Just one "pulse" of artificial light at night disrupts circadian cell division, reveals a new study carried out by Dr. Rachel Ben-Shlomo of the University of Haifa-Oranim Department of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology along with Prof. Charalambos P. Kyriacou of the University of Leicester. "Damage to cell division is characteristic of cancer, and it is therefore important to understand the causes of this damage," notes Dr. Ben-Shlomo. The study has been published in the journal Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics.

Roche NimbleGen to implement GMP for DNA microarrays suite

Roche NimbleGen, announced today a company-wide initiative to implement Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) for its suite of DNA microarrays. The implementation of GMP will cover the full scope of processes from development through manufacturing and will include all locations. The company plans on achieving GMP compliance followed by subsequent submission for clearance or approval of select array products to the US Food and Drug Administration.

New three-drug combination may be effective for treating patients with bone cancer

Sunesis Pharmaceuticals enrolls 113 patients in voreloxin REVEAL-1 trial

Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today reported that it has completed enrollment in the REVEAL-1 (Response Evaluation of VorEloxin in AmL) trial, a Phase 2 dose regimen optimization trial of single agent voreloxin in newly diagnosed elderly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients who are unlikely to benefit from standard induction chemotherapy. A total of 113 patients were enrolled and dosed according to one of three dosing schedules.

FDA: Randomized clinical trial necessary to better interpret Clolar’s efficacy and safety in adult AML

Genzyme Corporation (Nasdaq: GENZ) announced today that the FDA’s Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee voted 9 to 3 that a randomized, controlled trial is needed to support the currently proposed label expansion for Clolar® (clofarabine) in adult myeloid leukemia (AML). The committee found that the single-arm clinical study results submitted to support the label expansion showed Clolar was an active agent in acute AML patients, but concluded that a randomized clinical trial should be necessary to better interpret Clolar’s efficacy and safety in the proposed patient population.
