Bioheart to open five centers to provide cell therapy procedures for congestive heart failure patients

Bioheart, Inc., announced today plans for establishing five Centers of Excellence in Latin America to provide its cell therapy procedures to patients suffering from congestive heart failure and peripheral arterial disease beginning next month, April 2010. Bioheart entered into its first agreement with a leading treatment facilitator, Regenerative Medicine Institute of Tijuana, Mexico. Therapies for CHF and PAD patients will be made available at the Hospital Angeles Tijuana, a fully equipped state-of–the-art private specialties hospital. This will be the first of five Centers of Excellence with four additional Centers to be announced in the coming months.

Angioplasty: Complexity of heart disease, gender and body size influence cumulative radiation skin dose

Body size, gender and the complexity of heart disease significantly influence how much cumulative radiation skin dose that patients receive during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) therapy, also known as angioplasty, according to a new Mayo Clinic study. The study was undertaken as a quality control initiative to reduce the potential radiation risks of cancer to patients and PCI operators.

Vertebroplasty: Patient selection vital

Patient selection is key for vertebroplasty—a minimally invasive treatment performed by interventional radiologists in individuals with painful osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures that fail to respond to conventional medical therapy—to be effective and successful, according to a study of more than 1,500 persons who were followed over seven years. Additionally, collaboration between an interventional radiologist and other medical experts in treating a patient is imperative, say researchers at the Society of Interventional Radiology's 35th Annual Scientific Meeting in Tampa, Fla.

Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics installs Infinix CF-i/BP vascular X-ray systems

To bring the latest in cardiovascular X-ray technology to its pediatric patients, Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, Mo., has installed two InfinixTM CF-i/BP vascular X-ray systems with 8" x 8" flat panel detectors (FPD) from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. These systems are the first pediatric bi-plane systems in the U.S. equipped with Toshiba’s Next Generation Advanced Image Processing (AIP) capabilities.
