New tool combines drugs to target kinase dependency in cancer

Targeted therapies attack a cancer's genetic sensitivities. However, it can be difficult to discover the genetics driving a patient's cancer, and the effects of drugs designed to target a genetic abnormality often go beyond their intended target alone. The result is threefold: sometimes a drug is prescribed to treat a target that proves to be irrelevant to the disease, sometimes an existing drug could be used to treat a cancer for which there is no approved targeted therapy, and sometimes a combination of targeted treatments could be used to simultaneously silence more than one genetic cause of a patient's cancer.

Moerae announces initiation of second MMI-0100 Phase 1 clinical trial for pulmonary disorders

Moerae Matrix Inc. announced today the initiation of its second Phase 1 clinical trial with MMI-0100, a first-in-class inhibitor of MAPKAP kinase 2 (MK2) that is being developed for pulmonary disorders characterized by inflammation and fibrosis. The study, conducted in the United Kingdom, is a double-blind, two-way cross-over design lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge study further evaluating the safety and tolerability of MMI-0100 when given via inhalation to healthy subjects who smoke.

inSleep Health receives FDA clearance for Cloud9 Anti-Snoring System

inSleep Health announced today that it has received 510(K) clearance for the company's Cloud9 Anti-Snoring System. The indication for use is to reduce or eliminate simple snoring in adults. Cloud9 is a prescription device for home use. This is the first clinically proven device, using continuous low positive airway pressure, specifically labeled to treat simple snoring.

New study estimates link between coffee consumption habits and incidence of mild cognitive impairment

A new study by researchers at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy, Geriatric Unit & Laboratory of Gerontology and Geriatrics, IRCCS "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza", San Giovanni Rotondo, Foggia, Italy, and Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Roma, Italy, estimates the association between change or constant habits in coffee consumption and the incidence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), evaluating 1,445 individuals recruited from 5,632 subjects, aged 65-84 year old, from the Italian Longitudinal Study on Aging (ILSA), a population-based sample from eight Italian municipalities with a 3.5-year median follow-up.

According to a study published in the Online First edition of Anesthesiology, the official medical journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, patients who received a novel high frequency form of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) therapy experienced significantly greater, long-term relief for both chronic back and leg pain, when compared to a traditional low frequency form of SCS therapy.
