NCRI launches first virtual biobank for prostate cancer research

The first virtual biobank dedicated to prostate cancer research has been launched today by the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI). The UK Prostate Cancer Sample Collection Database will house details of around 10,000 biological samples taken from men in the UK with and without prostate cancer.

Radiotherapy can benefit men with high risk prostate cancer: Research

Millennium and Takeda initiate TAK-700 Phase III clinical trial in advanced prostate cancer

Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company with its parent company Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited today announced the initiation of a Phase III clinical trial for TAK-700 in the U.S. in patients with advanced prostate cancer. TAK-700 is a selective, oral, non-steroidal androgen synthesis inhibitor that in preclinical studies has been shown to selectively bind to and inhibit the enzyme 17,20 lyase in both the testes and adrenal glands.

Nymox awarded federal grant for NX-1207 Phase III BPH clinical trial program

Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation announced today that it has been awarded a grant of $244,479.25 from the U.S Government under the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project for its ongoing Phase III clinical trial program for NX-1207 for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The grant was the maximum allowable for an individual development program.

When Medicare policy changes led to reductions in reimbursement for hormonal treatment of prostate cancer, there was a sharp decline in its use among patients not likely to benefit from the treatment. But among patients for whom the therapy is clearly beneficial, doctors continued to prescribe it at the same rate, according to a new study.

Increasing urine BPA (Bisphenol-A) level was significantly associated with decreased sperm concentration, decreased total sperm count, decreased sperm vitality and decreased sperm motility, according to a Kaiser Permanente study appearing in the journal of Fertility and Sterility.
