The Alliance for Consumer Education (ACE) is launching a new public service announcement campaign to support its www.inhalant.org website, and its ongoing efforts to reach out to parents and children about inhalant abuse.

Alleged child trafficking: SOS Children's Villages offers care and protection for 33 Haitian children

SOS Children’s Villages, a global organization dedicated to the long-term care and prevention of orphaned and abandoned children, are currently caring for the 33 children who are alleged victims of child trafficking. The Haitian Social Ministry entrusted SOS with the children – who range from three months to 12 years -- after Haitian police arrested 10 U.S. citizens attempting to take the children from Haiti to the Dominican Republic on January 29 in a suspected illicit adoption scheme. The suspects did not have official papers confirming the identities of the children, nor did they have official permission to bring the children out of the country.

World Vision to join seven other aid agencies to distribute food in Haiti

World Vision will join seven other aid agencies today to begin a massive distribution of food provided by the World Food Program. The distribution effort, with support of the Haitian Government, is expected to reach some 1.6 million people throughout Port-au-Prince, some living in volatile areas that have so far received little aid.

As search and rescue teams return home from Haiti this week, The Nutro Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated, today announced a $50,000 donation to the Search Dog Foundation (SDF). SDF is a California-based organization that deployed six canine disaster search teams to assist in the search and rescue operations in Haiti.

Environmental tobacco smoke may have significant impact on smokers' health

It is well known that smokers damage their health by directly inhaling cigarette smoke. Now, research published in BioMed Central's open access journal Environmental Health has shown that they are at additional risk from breathing environmental tobacco smoke, contrary to the prevailing assumption that such risks would be negligible in comparison to those incurred by actually smoking.
