Protox Therapeutics reports positive data from Phase 2b study of PRX302 in BPH

Protox Therapeutics Inc., a leader in the development of receptor targeted fusion proteins, today announced positive six month data from its double-blind placebo controlled Phase 2b study of PRX302 (study name: TRIUMPH) in patients with moderate to severe benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) a bothersome urologic condition that affects the quality of life of more than 50 million men worldwide.

Protox announces presentations on PRX302 for BPH at 2010 AUA Annual Meeting

Protox Therapeutics Inc., a leader in the development of receptor targeted fusion proteins, today announced that two oral podium presentations on the company's lead candidate, PRX302, will be made at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA). These presentations will include six month data from the Phase 2b clinical study of PRX302 called TRIUMPH, in patients with moderate to severe benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Surgery more beneficial than drug therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia

A 17-year-long community study looking at symptoms of enlarged prostate in over 2,000 men age 40 to 79 years suggests that surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) offers more relief from incontinence and obstruction symptoms than treatment from drug-based therapy, according to a new study by researchers at Mayo Clinic.

Two common operations for SUI help women achieve similar levels of dryness: Study

Two common operations for stress urinary incontinence help women achieve similar levels of dryness, according to a team of urologists and urogynecologists who compared the treatments in a large U.S. trial supported by the National Institutes of Health. The study is being released online May 17, 2010, by the New England Journal of Medicine to coincide with a presentation at the annual meeting of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Results will appear in the June 3 print edition.

Tips for cutting back on added sugar

Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Gatorade, and other drinks now come in versions made with "real" sugar as opposed to the often vilified high-fructose corn syrup. A whole swath of sugar alternatives are now available to consumers including the new BioVittoria, an extract of the monk fruit, which is grown in Southern China. But a new special report from Consumer Reports on Health questions whether turning to alternatives is the solution to America's growing obesity epidemic.

25% of adults quit their overactive bladder medication: Study

Study of 5,392 adults found that a quarter had quit their overactive bladder medication, with nine out of ten saying it didn't work as expected or they couldn't tolerate it. A follow-up study found that being a current smoker raised the risk of quitting by 80%, having an enlarged prostate by 74% and believing that bladder medication caused side effects by 111%.

The most recent Safety Monitoring Committee meeting of April 30, 2010 for the Phase 3 U.S. pivotal trials of NX-1207 indicated no significant safety concerns for the trials to date.

This is expected to occur when those codes are published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which is expected in October 2010.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a neurological condition which typically affects adults ages 55 and older. This condition was first described in the 1960s as a triad of gait disturbance, dementia, and bladder incontinence. The ventricles of the brain appear enlarged although the cerebrospinal fluid pressure remains normal.

Protox Therapeutics Inc., a leader in the development of receptor targeted fusion proteins, today announced that it has entered into an exclusive US $75 million license agreement with Kissei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. for the development and commercialization of its PSA-activated pro-drug, PRX302, in Japan for BPH, prostate cancer and other diseases of the prostate. Protox retains exclusive rights to PRX302 in all other territories.
