sanofi-aventis reports financial results for the third quarter of 2009

In the third quarter of 2009, sanofi-aventis generated net sales of euro 7,400 million, up 8.0% on a reported basis. Exchange rate movements had a favorable effect of 2.0 percentage points, with the appreciation of the U.S. dollar (and to a lesser extent the yen) against the euro more than offsetting the unfavorable effects of some other currencies.

Moreover, different autoimmune diseases aggregate within a single family, suggesting they are caused by disruptions in common biological pathways.

The Quebec Division of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is delighted to be able to count on the Fondation Jacques-F. Under the Foundation of Greater Montreal's Community Grants Program, the Montreal Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada will receive $10,000, which will ensure the continuity of its program of physical activities adapted for people with multiple sclerosis.

AMT inks agreement with Progenika Biopharma for development of LPLchip

Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics (AMT) and Progenika Biopharma announced today that the companies have entered into a development and commercialization agreement for LPLchip(TM), a diagnostic tool to rapidly diagnose patients with complete and partial lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD). AMT has developed Glybera(R) as a gene therapy for patients with this disease.

Veterans with TBI vision loss have poor quality of life compared to civilian patients

Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) Joint Meeting, includes a Veterans Administration study that indicates that Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with vision loss from traumatic brain injury have significantly poorer quality of life than comparable civilian patients, and a Harvard doctor's insights on how to best evaluate and care for low-vision patients who experience vivid visual hallucinations due to Charles Bonnet syndrome.

The discovery of a multi-level arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the thoracic epidural space can now bring relief to potentially thousands of suffers of chronic thoracic pain and progressive myelopothy. Study: High protein levels are associated with heart attack and not stroke
