Home-based medical devices to grow over 1.6M by 2013: Report

Emerging Healthcare Solutions, Inc. applauded the results of a new report from InMedica on the world market for telemedicine, predicting that the use of home-based medical devices will drastically increase as telemedicine takes-off. According to the report, by 2013 the combined unit shipments of home-use digital blood-glucose meters, blood pressure monitors, weight scales, pulse oximeters and peak flow meters used in telemedical applications will grow to over 1.6 million.

If a drug was developed to block a key protein linked to the onset of Huntington's Disease, it could have a clear path to the part of the brain most affected by the disease, while not bothering other parts of the brain and body, said distinguished neuroscientist Solomon H. Research reveals reason for ineffectiveness of antioxidants against cardiovascular disease

A new study by researchers at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet shows that the immune defence's T cells can attack the "bad" LDL cholesterol and thereby cause an inflammation that leads to atherosclerosis. By producing a vaccine against the T cell receptors, the researchers have managed to inhibit the development of atherosclerosis in animals.
