Haemonetics announces reagent agreement with Quotient Biodiagnostics and Alba Bioscience

Haemonetics Corporation, a global blood management solutions company, today announced that it has entered into a reagent development and supply agreement with Quotient Biodiagnostics Group and its wholly owned subsidiary Alba Bioscience Limited. This arrangement provides Haemonetics with exclusive access to Alba's comprehensive catalogue of approved reagents for use in connection with the commercialization of its Arryx laser based blood typing platform.

Kaiser Permanente study: Snapshot of the prevalence of extreme obesity in younger children

Extreme obesity is affecting more children at younger ages, with 12 percent of black teenage girls, 11.2 percent of Hispanic teenage boys, 7.3 percent of boys and 5.5 percent of girls now classified as extremely obese, according to a Kaiser Permanente study of 710,949 children and teens that appears online in the Journal of Pediatrics.

CBO finds heath overhaul will cost $940 billion over 10 years but trim deficit

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., says the Congressional Budget Office has finished its analysis of the latest Democratic health overhaul bill, Politico is reporting. According to Hoyer, the plan will cost $940 billion over 10 years and will trim the federal deficit by $130 billion in the first 10 years and $1.2 trillion in the second 10 years (Budoff-Brown, 3/18).

Research scientists from the Cancer Prevention Institute of California (CPIC) released the results of a study of breast cancer in Asian women which examined their cancer rates by ethnicity, age and immigrant status. The findings challenge the notion that breast cancer rates are uniformly low across the population of Asian women and indicate rising rates of occurrences in specific ethnic groups. CPIC scientists studied Asian populations in California, the state with the largest and most diverse Asian population in the U.S.
