Researchers have discovered an efficient and easy-to-use method for bonding together gels and biological tissues. A team headed by Ludwik Leibler, involving researchers from the Laboratoire Matière Molle et Chimie (CNRS/ESPCI ParisTech) and the Laboratoire Physico-Chimie des Polymères et Milieux Dispersés (CNRS/ UPMC/ESPCI ParisTech), has succeeded in obtaining very strong adhesion between two gels by spreading on their surface a solution containing nanoparticles.

NLST data provides vital information to better understand the benefits, risks of lung cancer screening

Data from the National Lung Cancer Screening Trial—conducted by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network and National Cancer Institute Lung Screening Study—provided researchers the opportunity to investigate the probability that a cancer detected with screening low-dose computed tomography would not have progressed to become life threatening. The results of this investigation published online today in JAMA Internal Medicine suggest that up to 18 percent of the cancers detected by LDCT may not have progressed enough to affect patient health if left undetected.

Findings from a new global study suggest that estimates of gender-based violence prevalence based on health systems data or on police reports may underestimate the actual total prevalence by 11- to 128-fold. Led by Tia Palermo, PhD, Assistant Professor in Public Health and the Department of Preventive Medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, the study is soon to be published online in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

For my MD thesis I modified and evaluated an immunological assay that detected the cell death products “nucleosomes” as a new blood-based cancer biomarker. As cell death processes are enhanced or suppressed during different stages of tumor development, it was assumed that they may enable stage-dependent detection of cancer disease.
