National Bed Month: Five tips for a perfect sleep routine

This National Bed Month (March) Sleep Practitioner & Sleep Environment Expert James Wilson has shared his five steps to a perfect sleep routine which includes using nature’s most effective relaxant… magnesium.

The Great British Bedtime Report says that almost half of Britons have never taken steps to help them sleep even though a third of us admit that they sleep poorly. By following five simple steps individuals can not only improve their quality of sleep, but their quality of life.

Using powerful mineral magnesium as part of your wind down ritual is an essential step within James’ blog which is supported by health pioneers BetterYou.

James says:

A great way to help your body start its melatonin production is to take a bath or shower. Melatonin is a hormone made naturally by our bodies which helps create the urge to fall asleep and is key in regulating your body's internal clock. The fall in body temperature we experience when we get out of the bath or shower is a signal to the body to start producing melatonin.

You can supercharge this process by adding BetterYou Magnesium Oil Goodnight spray after your bath or shower. Magnesium helps the body relax by ensuring the GABA receptors in our brain and nervous system are working as efficiently as possible. GABA receptors help the brain switch off and without it our brains would continue to race. It’s also essential for allowing your muscles to relax, particularly after stress or exercise.

I have found that adding Magnesium to the bedtime routine has an effect on a sleep sufferers’ ability to fall asleep.

The Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine found that when the body’s magnesium levels are too low, it makes it harder to stay asleep.

Twenty six year-old Camilla Beardsmore from Bristol suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which left her feeling lethargic and tired, until she discovered BetterYou Magnesium Oil Goodnight spray which changed her life.

“There were days I wouldn't have the energy to get dressed, it was totally debilitating and nothing anyone suggested seemed to make a difference. I became very depressed that this would be how my life always was” said Camilla.

“It was then I read about magnesium deficiency and by this point I was willing to try anything. So I bought the BetterYou Magnesium Oil Goodnight spray and it has changed my life.

“Over the next few weeks I noticed such a change, suddenly I was not so exhausted and life became so much easier. It has dramatically improved the quality of my life” she concluded.

Magnesium, a powerful mineral is part of BetterYou’s award-winning product range and acts as an aid to muscle tension, cramping and restful sleep. Without magnesium our bodies are less supple, and deficiency is linked with many health implications including migraines, anxiety, depression and extreme fatigue. A magnesium rich bath or a few body sprays after a shower will leave you feeling relaxed as well as effectively replenishing your body’s levels.

Supplementing magnesium transdermally is incredibly easy to do. Applied directly to the skin; magnesium will be absorbed directly into the skin tissue, entering cells immediately replacing magnesium lost through the stresses of modern life.

A clinical trial by Cardiff University found that applying BetterYou Magnesium Oil spray to the skin provides a faster way of absorbing the mineral than tablets.

Andrew Thomas, founder and managing director at BetterYou said:

Our body needs magnesium to maintain a state of rest, but a lack of the mineral in our low magnesium Western diets mean that we are not getting the levels we need.

A very popular and effective alternative to the BetterYou Magnesium Oil Goodnight spray is a soak in a magnesium rich body or foot bath using our Magnesium Flakes.
