The body of available science does not support the claim that beverages are a unique factor in causing tooth decay and erosion.  We do know, however, that brushing and flossing our teeth, along with regular visits to the dentist, play a very important role in preventing tooth decay and erosion.  The woman referenced in this article admitted that she had not received dental health services in more than 20 years (more than two-thirds of her life).  To single out diet soda consumption as the unique factor in her tooth decay and erosion and to then compare it to the damage caused by illicit drug use is irresponsible.  - Maureen ABA
