    I find that I have better glucose control if I eat most of my carbs in the morning, along with some protein, then taper off during the day, but that doesn't mean it would work for everyone.  Monitoring is key, not only to figure out when to eat, but what to eat.  My ancestry is Eastern European/Scottish.  Oatmeal doesn't even register as a blip in my blood sugar.  Potatoes are fine, as long as I eat the skin.  Both white and brown rice make my blood sugar shoot up, but low carb/high protein basmati rice is fine.  Wheat flour isn't as bad as rice, but I have to avoid dense white breads, like bagels, biscuits, and thick pizza crusts.  The main thing that diabetics need is access to monitoring, since we're really the only ones who can direct our daily "treatment".
