    The VA's Opiate Safety Initiative, from a patients' stand-point, is a catastrophic failure. In order to obtain these arbitrary reductions, VA doctors are forced to falsify records, misdiagnose patients, and deny treatment. VA doctors are openly hostile about treating pain, belittle patients' suffering, and hide the failure of the policy by falsifying medical records. The  only tangible effect of the policy is a great deal of needless suffering by veterans with chronic pain. The policy is a disgrace.
