I breastfed my son until he was 2.5. admittedly I did want to finish sooner and spoke to my GP who advised he was probably only doing it for comfort. My son never had a dummy and had no childhood illnesses and only had tonsillitis once when he was 2. I personally believe that our breasts are for feeding and more women should be encouraged to do it. I returned to work when my son was 10 weeks old and he used to have formula during the day - but he only ever took and ounce or 2 and would wait until I got home and would empty both my breasts with his first feed..I started him on solids at 11 weeks as he did not like formula and I didn't have enough milk to.express as he would empty out ever drop I had when he did feed, and he was settled overnight from 8weeks.
