    All long term studies of Metformin indicate that between 30 and 40 percent on  Metformin users of 4 years or more will develop a B12 deficiency. The longer and the higher the dose increase your chances. I was on Glucophage/Metformin for 12 years (High dose) and I developed a B12 deficiency which led to severe and irreversible nerve damage including Peripheral Neuropathy and Charcot foot. If you are on Metformin have your B12 levels checked yearly and avoid the pain.
