Our over reliance on antibiotics in humans and animal husbandry has undoubtedly propagated the spread of MRSA and the risk of other antibiotic resistant bacteria in farming and in the food chain. Companion animals are also at risk. Denmark had a much better track record than us in hospital cases in the human population, I think the increase in the community is a very worrying trend and that more attention needs to be aimed at the problem by our experts in antimicrobial resistance, supported by their governments, to understand the carriage and spread of these diseases.
