This is absurd! In the first part of this article it claims that type 2 diabetes is due to lifestyle factors, then you go on to say heavier diabetics feel stigmatized! It’s like everyone is insane! Type2 diabetes is NOT due to one’s lifestyle. It is as genetic as type 1. It’s the primary insulin resistance preceding the diabetes that leads to diabetics being overweight, not the other way around. The only way lifestyle contributes is that having the genes for type 2 and overeating can make the diabetes show up a little faster than it would have. Unfortunately it’s a vicious cycle because insulin resistance causes extreme hunger. Insulin resistance also causes people to store calories as fat rather than using it as energy, hence the fat and lazy type 2 stereotype. I’m so tired of the whole world blaming diabetics for their illness. Some endocrinologists should hold a press conference about this to make life better for diabetics. This article and the study cited is like a cruel trick being played on unwell people.
