Toshiba announces 1,000th worldwide MR installation

Diagnostic imaging leader Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. has installed its 1,000th MR system worldwide. Kosair Children's Medical Center - Brownsboro, the only pediatric outpatient facility of its type in Kentucky, is the site of Toshiba's milestone installation. The new facility, dedicated to the care of children, is located in the eastern suburbs of Louisville, Ky., and is the newest addition to Kosair Children's Hospital and the Norton Healthcare Network.

Depression alone affects almost 20 million ranking in the EU as the most disabling disorder of all diseases.

Researchers have tracked a cell-to-cell signaling pathway that designates the future location of the ear's sensory organs in embryonic mice. The scientists succeeded in activating this signal more widely across the embryonic tissue that becomes the inner ear. Patches of sensory structures began growing in spots where they don't normally appear.

New non-invasive method to diagnose osteoarthritis

Researchers at New York University have developed an innovative way to look at the development of osteoarthritis in the knee joint-one that relies on the examination of sodium ions in cartilage. Their work, which appears in the Journal of Magnetic Resonance, may provide a non-invasive method to diagnose osteoarthritis in its very early stages.

Mexican IMSS awards Del Medical $2 million tender for DR radiographic rooms

Del Medical, Inc. today announced they were recently awarded a Mexican tender from IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social) for over twenty complete Del Medical DR radiographic rooms valued in excess of $2 million. Each 50kw, floor-mounted tube stand system is equipped with Del's popular EV650 elevating, four-way, float top table and bundled with a DelWorks Medical DR package. Each package includes a 14" x 17" portable flat panel DR detector with DelWorks acquisition and processing software.

Increase in regeneration of nerve cells can alleviate or prevent memory loss

Production of new nerve cells in the human brain is linked to learning and memory, according to a new study from the University of Florida. The research is the first to show such a link in humans. The findings, published online and in an upcoming print issue of the journal Brain, provide clues about processes involved in age- and health-related memory loss and reveal potential cellular targets for drug therapy.

Patterson first-quarter net income increases 20% to $53.93 million

Patterson Companies, Inc. today reported consolidated sales of $849,787,000 for the first quarter of fiscal 2011 ended July 31, an increase of 8% from $789,579,000 in the year-earlier quarter. Sales for the current quarter included the impact of an extra or fourteenth week, which will make fiscal 2011 a 53-week year ending on April 30, 2011. Net income of $53,925,000 or $0.45 per diluted share rose 20% from $45,057,000 or $0.38 per diluted share in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.
