Researchers develop microneedles to deliver quantum dots for skin cancer treatment

Researchers from North Carolina State University have developed extremely small microneedles that can be used to deliver medically-relevant nanoscale dyes called quantum dots into skin - an advance that opens the door to new techniques for diagnosing and treating a variety of medical conditions, including skin cancer.

Administrative Law Judge recommends grant of Certificate of Need for Trinity Medical Center's relocation

Trinity Medical Center achieved a major victory today in its effort to gain state regulatory approval for a new, state-of-the-art hospital facility on Highway 280. Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) James Hampton has issued his recommendation in favor of granting the required Certificate of Need (CON) for Trinity's relocation from its 44-year old campus on Montclair Road to the new hospital facility. The decision follows months of deliberation and a comprehensive review of the facts during what was the longest ALJ hearing on a healthcare matter in Alabama history.

U.S. DOE awards Dynasil 7 Phase-II SBIR grants totaling $6.2 million

Dynasil Corporation of America today announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has approved seven of its Phase-II SBIR projects for awards, ranging from $750,000 to $1,000,000 each. The awards, totaling $6.2 million, are being made to its wholly owned subsidiary, Radiation Monitoring Devices, Inc, to develop its state of the art nuclear sensors and instruments.

Now, research professor Shaopeng Wang and his colleagues from the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University, describe a new method for visualizing individual virus particles. Bug with bifocals discovered

University of Cincinnati researchers are reporting on the discovery of a bug with bifocals - such an amazing finding that it initially had the researchers questioning whether they could believe their own eyes. "To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of truly bifocal lenses in the extant animal kingdom," the researchers state in the Aug. 24 cover feature of the premier life-science journal, Current Biology.
