Poll: 14% of Canadians believe women can be diagnosed with prostate cancer

According to a recent Leger Marketing poll, 14 per cent of Canadians believe women can be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and an additional 20 per cent aren't sure. Only 56 per cent know with certainty that men are the only ones who can be afflicted.

Orthopedists should suspect necrotizing fasciitis in patients with out of proportion pain

Dr. Russell Russo, an Orthopedic Surgeon at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, and other researchers stress that orthopedists should have a high index of suspicion for necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh-eating bacterial infection, in every patient with pain or other symptoms that are out of proportion to the initial diagnosis. Their recommendations are published in the September 2012 issue of Orthopedics Today.

Now researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have found that a single HPV protein is required for cervical cancer and even pre-cancer growths in the cervix to survive.

Health care spending increased by just 3.9 percent in 2010 and 3.8 percent in 2009. And within Medicare, the spending slowdown has been even more dramatic: Instead of the program's average 6 percent annual increase per beneficiary in recent years, 2010's rate was 0.2 percent. Study compares transcrestal techniques for maxillary sinus floor elevation

For a successful dental implant, the first step for some patients is reconstructive surgery of the jaw. A bone graft to augment the upper jaw can now be achieved by several methods. To assess these methods, their risk of sinus perforation, and the best evaluation technology, researchers put these procedures to the test on 20 human cadaver specimens.

CBH first hospital in Central Kentucky to perform transcatheter aortic valve replacement

CBH is the first hospital in Central Kentucky to perform the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure. Four patients with diseased aortic heart valves who were deemed too sick to withstand conventional open-heart surgery to replace their valves have undergone this new heart valve replacement procedure at Central Baptist Hospital.
