Femta Pharmaceuticals and Lonza Group Ltd jointly announce the execution of a manufacturing services agreement to facilitate the development and cGMP manufacturing of FM101. FM101 is a high affinity monoclonal antibody in late pre-clinical development for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Almac Discovery initiates Phase I clinical trial of intranasal Granisetron for CINV

Almac Discovery today announced the start of Phase I clinical trial of the novel intranasal Granisetron product. This product, which uses Archimedes' proprietary ChiSys® delivery technology, is being developed as a rapidly acting, well tolerated and convenient treatment for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV).

University of Wisconsin IRB approves GenSpera's G-202 Phase I study for cancer

GenSpera, Inc. announced today that the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, WI, has approved a Phase I study of its target activated pro-drug, G-202, for the treatment of cancer. The FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) approved the study in September. GenSpera expects to enroll the first study patient early in the first quarter of 2010.

Lytix Biopharma AS receives approval to commence Phase I clinical trials of Oncopore

The Norwegian pharmaceutical company Lytix Biopharma AS today announced approvals from the Norwegian Medicines Agency (”Statens legemiddelverk”) and the Swedish Medical Products Agency (”Läkemedelverket”) to commence Phase I clinical trials of OncoporeTM (LTX-315) for the treatment of cancer.

Pure populations of immature cells that enable male reproduction isolated and transplanted

Reproductive researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have succeeded in isolating and transplanting pure populations of the immature cells that enable male reproduction in two species-human spermatogonia and mouse gonocytes. These germline stem cells, taken from testis biopsies, demonstrated viability following transplantation to mouse testes within a controlled laboratory setting.

Antidepressant and anti-anxiety medications linked to increased risk of cardiovascular events and death

Women with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) who report taking antidepressant and anti-anxiety medications have an increased risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes, and death compared to women not taking these medications, according to researchers at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU).

Phase III clinical trial evaluating darusentan misses its co-primary efficacy endpoints

Gilead Sciences, Inc. today announced that DAR-312 (DORADO-AC), a Phase III clinical trial evaluating darusentan, the company’s endothelin receptor antagonist (ERA) for the treatment of resistant hypertension, did not achieve its co-primary efficacy endpoints of change from baseline to week 14 in trough sitting systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) compared to placebo.

The Microbicides Development Programme announced earlier today that its MDP 301 effectiveness trial, which was conducted among almost 9,400 women in four African countries, found no evidence that the PRO 2000 microbicide reduces the risk of HIV infection.

New antibody-drug compound halts growth of metastatic breast tumors

A new antibody-drug compound shrank or halted the growth of metastatic breast tumors in almost half of a group of patients whose HER2-positive cancer had become resistant to standard therapies, according to early data from a multicenter Phase 2 clinical trial led by a Dana-Farber Cancer Institute researcher.
