Neogenix awarded $488,958.50 grant under QTDP program

Neogenix Oncology, Inc. announced today that the company has been awarded two grants totaling $488,958.50, under the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project Program. The two successful applications were for the company's h16C3 therapeutic antibody development program and the diagnostic biomarker development program for both their h16C3 and NPC-1C antibodies.

Silence Therapeutics plc announces positive research findings demonstrating the ability of the Company's lead RNA interference (RNAi) drug candidate, Atu027, to prevent the formation of pulmonary metastasis in various animal models of cancer metastasis. Researchers showed that Atu027 inhibited multiple key biological processes that enable and contribute to the dissemination and formation of pulmonary metastases in a murine breast cancer metastasis model.

Albert Einstein researcher receives Medal of Honor from American Cancer Society

Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University researcher Jeffrey Pollard, Ph.D., has received the prestigious Medal of Honor in Basic Science from the American Cancer Society (ACS) in recognition of his research into the critical role the tumor microenvironment plays in modulating cancer behavior, specifically the role that members of the innate immune cells called macrophages play both in normal development and in promoting tumor progression. These macrophages could hold the key to more targeted cancer treatments.

Scientists develop nanobioconjugate drug to target brain tumor

Nine years ago, scientists at Cedars-Sinai's Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute detected a subtle shift occurring in the molecular makeup of the most aggressive type of brain tumors, glioblastoma multiforme. With further study, they found that a specific protein called laminin-411 plays a major role in a tumor's ability to build new blood vessels to support its growth and spread. But technology did not exist then to block this protein.

Amgen today announced the publication of results from a pivotal Phase 3 study of 2,046 patients which compared denosumab with Zometa® (zoledronic acid) in delaying or preventing skeletal-related events (SREs) in breast cancer patients with bone metastases.
