Physicians there found a lump in her belly, and, after examining X-rays and blood work, confirmed the parents' worst fear: their 18-month-old little girl had neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer that involves the adrenal glands.

NYU Langone to expand Emergency Department and dedicate separate area for pediatric emergency care

NYU Langone Medical Center today announced its plan to transform its Emergency Department (ED) into a state-of the-art emergency facility to meet the growing need for emergency care services in the community. Once completed, the new facility will nearly triple the size of the current ED and will include for the first time a separate area dedicated to pediatric emergency services.

Transplant surgeons routinely use fewer organs from high-risk donors

As a response to a 2007 episode in which four patients in Chicago were transplanted with organs from a single donor unknowingly infected with HIV — the only such episode in 20 years — one-third of transplant surgeons in the United States "overreacted" and began routinely using fewer organs from high-risk donors, new research from Johns Hopkins finds.
