Ultrasound is a procedure in which high-energy sound waves are bounced off internal tissues or organs and make echoes. The echo patterns are shown on the screen of an ultrasound machine, forming a picture of body tissues called a sonogram. Also called ultrasonography.

Radiology Regional Center initiates participation in SOMO•INSIGHT Clinical Study

U-Systems announced today that Radiology Regional Center has initiated participation in the SOMO•INSIGHT Clinical Study. The first breast center in Southwest Florida to participate, Radiology Regional Center is recruiting participants for the national clinical research study designed to evaluate whether digital mammography in combination with the somo•v™ Automated Breast Ultrasound System (ABUS) from U-Systems is more sensitive to detecting breast lesions when compared to Mammography alone in women with dense breasts.

Postmenopausal women who experience vaginal bleeding should see a doctor promptly. According to the January issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter, vaginal bleeding is a symptom that occurs early in the course of endometrial cancer, when the chance of a complete cure is the greatest. Even one drop of blood is abnormal in postmenopausal women.

CT-guided biopsy: An alternative method for patients with pancreatic masses

It is reasonable to obtain a histological diagnosis before treating patients who have pancreatic masses and are unsuitable or unwilling to undergo surgery. As the pancreas is a deep seated organ surrounded by other vital structures, it is a challenge for the physician to obtain an adequate specimen for histological examination.

Physiotherapy not "alternative" medicine or "voodoo", says CPA

The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) was surprised and dismayed to read articles in two of North America's most prestigious newspapers which question the use of certain commonly used physiotherapy treatments for musculoskeletal injuries. The articles, titled "Some physical therapy may be a stretch" and "Treat me, but no tricks please" suggest that ice, heat, ultrasound and other modalities are "voodoo" treatments.

New outpatient imaging center opened in Waukesha’s Westbrook Health Center

Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI) has opened a new outpatient imaging center in Waukesha’s Westbrook Health Center, and has relocated all of its Delafield center services to this new location. The new center allows CDI to expand services to include high-field (1.5T) MRI, multi-slice CT as well as x-ray. In addition, there are plans of offering digital mammography and ultrasound services in early 2010.
