This is the main conclusion of a study carried out by researchers from the Department of Pharmacy at the University CEU Cardenal Herrera and pharmacists in the Valencian Region (Spain).

University of Utah software successfully identifies diseases with unknown gene mutations in three separate cases

A computational tool developed at the University of Utah (U of U) has successfully identified diseases with unknown gene mutations in three separate cases, U of U researchers and their colleagues report in a new study in The American Journal of Human Genetics. The software, Phevor (Phenotype Driven Variant Ontological Re-ranking tool), identifies undiagnosed illnesses and unknown gene mutations by analyzing the exomes, or areas of DNA where proteins that code for genes are made, in individual patients and small families.

FDA announces expanded approval of Arzerra in combination with chlorambucil for CLL treatment

The US Food and Drug Administration has announced the expanded approval of Arzerra (ofatumumab) in combination with chlorambucil for the first-line treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Arzerra was previously approved by the FDA in October 2009 for the treatment of CLL resistant to other forms of chemotherapy. Diplomat has access to dispense Arzerra.

Survey finds counterfeit and defective emergency contraceptives in Peru

A survey of emergency contraceptive pills in Peru found that 28 percent of the batches studied were either of substandard quality or falsified. Many pills released the active ingredient too slowly. Others had the wrong active ingredient. One batch had no active ingredient at all.
