Pharmacyclics, Inc. today announced the signing of a five-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to collaborate on the development of PCI-32765, a first-in-class, small molecule inhibitor of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) for the treatment of hematologic malignancies.

Trastuzumab drug increases risk of heart problems in elderly breast cancer patients

The first study to investigate the effect of the breast cancer drug trastuzumab (Herceptin) on heart and vascular function in elderly patients has found that it increases the risk of heart problems, particularly in women with a history of heart disease, diabetes or both.

Male breast cancer patients denied Medicaid coverage

The American Cancer society's pages on breast cancer in men lay out the facts. About 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, which makes it rare: about 100 times more women get the disease. It is known that men, like women, are more likely to develop cancer if they have certain mutations of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Family history and age contribute to a man's likelihood of developing the disease as well.
