Infinity I-China creates six new JV private equity funds

Infinity I-China, the world leader in Chinese international RMB funds, announced today the creation of six new joint venture private equity funds throughout China purposed to support the growth of local Chinese businesses through the influx of proven technology and know-how. The new funds are the third step in Infinity’s ten-year plan for the region, following its 2004 establishment of the first RMB fund in China and its 2008 cross-board fund. Step four will be announced later this year.

Sartorius achieves operating earnings of 60.9M euros for 2009

Sartorius, a leading international laboratory and process equipment provider, increased its operating profit in 2009 despite the difficult macroeconomic climate and achieved operating earnings of 60.9 million euros, up from 56.8 million euros a year earlier. “As a result, we are among the companies that were able to close the 2009 year of crisis with a positive development of operating earnings,” commented CEO Dr. Joachim Kreuzburg on the company’s full-year results at the annual press conference in Goettingen, Germany.

Study shows NK cells use bungee-like nanotube to destroy dangerous cells

Immune cells ensnare dangerous cells that are on the run with a bungee-like nanotube, according to research published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The study, by researchers from Imperial College London, shows that natural killer (NK) cells use this bungee to destroy cells that could otherwise escape them.

By 2015, mother-to-child HIV transmission will be virtually eliminated and deaths from malaria and tuberculosis will continue to decline if health investments for the diseases are maintained or scaled up, according to an annual results report published Monday by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Agence France-Presse/Africasia.com reports (3/8).

Viatronix V3D-Colon software used for the President's colon cancer screening exam
