Acceleron Pharma announces study results of its ACE-011 and ACE-536 blood forming agents

Acceleron Pharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics that modulate the growth of cells and tissues including red blood cells, bone, muscle, fat, and the vasculature, today announced that results from preclinical and clinical studies of two, novel blood forming agents, ACE-011 and ACE-536, will be presented at the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

MHI performs its first Amptlazer- Cardiac Plug implant

A multidisciplinary team from the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI), which is affiliated to the Universit- de Montr-al, performed its first catheter implantation of a new prosthesis (Amptlazer- Cardiac Plug) closing the appendage of the left atrium of the heart, which will have the effect of preventing the formation of blood clots and avoiding open-heart surgery.

Type 1 diabetes youth have abnormal insulin resistance that may increase risk of cardiovascular disease

According to a new study accepted for publication in The Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), youth with type 1 diabetes have now been found to have abnormal insulin resistance. Having abnormal insulin resistance appears to negatively affect heart, blood vessel and exercise function in this population.
