Researchers to test use of ‘viral specific’ T-cells to target toxic viruses in children

Michael Pulsipher, MD, of the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, along with Michael Keller, MD from Children's National Health System in Washington, DC, have been awarded $4.8 million by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine to study the use of a new T-cell therapy to help fight active viral infections in children with severe immune deficiencies.

Gonorrhea and syphilis cases rise in Australia

The Annual Surveillance Report on HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmissible infections (STIs) in Australia was released and it revealed that there is a rise in diagnosis of gonorrhea and syphilis but the number of people being affected by HIV has plateaued. In addition tens of thousands of people have been cured of Hepatitis C. The report comes from the Kirby Institute at UNSW Sydney.

Study: PrEP program for men who have sex with men could lead to long-term cost savings

HIV prevention drug to be trialed by Britain's NHS

After a High Court case, an HIV prevention drug is soon to be available on the NHS. NHS England has issued a statement saying that pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatment for HIV shall be available to an initial 10,000 people for a trial period of three years.
