Study identifies improved treatment option for neuroblastoma

Neuroblastoma is a rare form of malignant tumor, primarily affecting children under the age of six. A research team led by molecular pathologist Lukas Kenner from MedUni Vienna's Department of Pathology has now discovered, through genome sequencing, that the protein ALK and the cancer gene PIM1 are involved in the development of this tumor.

Roswell Park-led scientists identify new defense mechanism against prostate cancer

A research team led by a scientist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has identified the molecule LRIG1 as an important endogenous tumor suppressor in prostate cancer. Writing in the journal Nature Communications, the team documents their findings from preclinical studies showing that overexpression of the LRIG1 protein inhibits prostate cancer development, while reducing naturally occurring LRIG1 promotes prostate tumor development.

Home urine testing kit for prostate cancer could come soon

A new study from the University of East Anglia and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital may lead to people being able to test for prostate cancer from home, using urine samples.
